Air quality is a problem in the day to day life of the average person, as indoor air is 80-100 times more polluted than outdoor air. People spend 90% of their time indoors with indoor air generally filled with contaminants such as bacteria, airbourne pathogens, moulds and mildew.

Up until now, the conventional defence against infection has been surface cleaning and handwashing. Currently, however, nothing is done to sterilise the air and reduce the risks from the inhalation of micro-organisms.

Airbourne pathogens move with the convection flow of air. The UV-C light is germicidal; it deactivates the DNA of bacteria by destroying their ability to reproduce. The airbourne pathogens is killed instantly when coming into contact within the radius of the UV-C irradiance area. HEPA filters are effective for dust, pollen and tobacco but only 50% effective on moulds. UV-C is highly effective against bacteria and airbourne pathogens.
